Portmore couple charged with illegal ammo possession granted $500,000 bail each

A man and woman from Phoenix Village, Portmore face ammunition and prohibited weapon charges after police found cartridges and a magazine at their home.

Jamaica-gleaner.com reports that a Portmore couple appeared before the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday, each granted $500,000 bail with surety after being charged with weapons-related offences.

Anastacia Mirander, 29, and Kevin Baker, 32, both of Phoenix Village, Portmore, St Catherine, face charges of unauthorised possession of ammunition and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Attorneys John Jacobs and Orville Morgan made the bail application, assuring presiding Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle that both accused would attend future court dates and that their address was known to the authorities.

Baker's bail comes with conditions: he must report to the Greater Portmore Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and submit his fingerprints. Mirander was granted bail without reporting conditions.

Both are scheduled to reappear in court on December 1 for case management.

According to the allegations, police conducted a search operation at the couple's premises at approximately 6:30 a.m. on September 8. Officers reportedly discovered a transparent plastic bag containing 10 rounds of nine-millimetre cartridges and a nine-millimetre magazine on top of a closet.

Both individuals were arrested on suspicion and subsequently charged following a question-and-answer session with investigators.
