Sig Sauer pistol and ammunition recovered in Standpipe operation
A man was taken into custody and an illegal firearm along with several rounds of assorted ammunition were confiscated during a police operation in the Standpipe community on Old Hope Road, St Andrew, on Wednesday morning, Jamaica Observer reports.
Officers arrived in the area at around 6:45 am in response to a recent upsurge of crime and violence in the community. Upon their arrival, lawmen observed a man discard a weapon and attempt to flee. Both the man and the firearm were secured, after which a search of the premises was carried out.
The seized items included a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol, a magazine loaded with six 9mm cartridges, and 15 12-gauge cartridges recovered from a storage area on the property.
Preliminary intelligence indicated that the prohibited weapon and ammunition formed part of the arsenal belonging to the Front Page/Cedar Valley Road Gang, which operates out of sections of the Standpipe community.
This marks the second illegal firearm taken from the gang since the start of October 2026. The first, a Bryco 53 9mm pistol, was seized on Monday, October 5, 2026, on Cedar Valley Road in Standpipe.
Police noted that Standpipe has been experiencing heightened tensions following the murder of Damian 'Whoppa' Milne, who was shot dead on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, on Little Lane in the community.
