Police identified Shane Williams, 37, of Portmore, as the man shot dead by officers in Cumberland, St Catherine, on Saturday after he allegedly pointed a firearm at them.

Jamaica-gleaner.com reports that police have identified the man fatally shot by officers in St Catherine on Saturday as Shane Williams, 37, a labourer from Portmore, also known by the aliases "Baller", "Gaza Toussaint" and "Teachable".

Williams was a suspect in an ongoing anti-gang investigation, according to the police.

At approximately 3:45pm, officers from the St Catherine South Police Division were on patrol in Cumberland when they received intelligence that Williams was travelling in a motorcar carrying an illegal firearm. When they moved to intercept the vehicle, Williams allegedly drew a gun and pointed it at the officers.

The cops took evasive action and discharged their weapons toward the vehicle. Williams, the sole occupant, was found slumped over the steering wheel with multiple gunshot wounds.

A .38 Smith and Wesson revolver — serial number K467447, loaded with five rounds — was recovered from the scene.

Williams was subsequently pronounced dead at Spanish Town General Hospital.

He is the fourth individual killed by police between Saturday and early Sunday following separate incidents in which firearms were reportedly pointed at officers.
