St Mary Security Guard Arrested Over Fake FLA ID, Homemade Gun and Ammo

A 36-year-old security guard was arrested in Highgate, St Mary after police found fake FLA documents, a homemade firearm and ammunition. A laptop linked to producing fraudulent licences was also seized.

A 36-year-old security guard was arrested in Highgate, St Mary on Saturday after police seized ammunition, suspected firearm parts and multiple documents believed to be fraudulent, the Jamaica Observer reports.

Officers conducting an enforcement operation in the town spotted the man with what appeared to be a firearm tucked into his waistband. He told police he was a licensed firearm holder and produced an identification card purporting to have been issued by the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA).

At the Highgate Police Station, further checks revealed the weapon was an imitation firearm fitted with a magazine containing nine 9mm rounds. Investigators also determined that the FLA identification card was fraudulent.

Police subsequently searched premises occupied by the man in Frazerwood and found a homemade firearm and a second imitation firearm. The search also uncovered five 9mm pistol magazines, two additional 9mm rounds, several spent casings and assorted firearm parts and components, including pistol barrels.

Investigators further recovered several suspected fraudulent firearm licences, a firearm users permit, firearm-related tools and accessories, and a laptop believed to have been used to produce the fraudulent documents.

The man remains in custody as investigations continue.
