A 36-year-old security guard from Highgate was charged Saturday after police found him carrying an imitation handgun and a fake Firearm Licensing Authority ID card.

A 36-year-old security guard from St Mary has been charged after police discovered he was carrying an imitation firearm and a forged firearm holder's identification card, jamaica-gleaner.com reports.

Nickson Hamilton of Frazerwood, Highgate, faces four charges: possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, possession of a forged document, and uttering a forged document.

Hamilton was arrested and charged on Saturday, September 5, after officers responding to a crowd obstructing the seizure of a robot taxi noticed a bulge in his waistband. When approached, Hamilton told police he was a licensed firearm holder and produced a Firearm Licensing Authority ID card. The card raised officers' suspicion.

He was disarmed and taken to the Highgate Police Station, where the weapon was examined and confirmed to be an imitation handgun. The magazine contained nine 9mm hollow-point rounds. Further checks revealed the Firearm Licensing Authority ID card was also fake.

Hamilton is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, September 10.
