Three dead after police intercept robbery suspect vehicle in St Andrew

Two men and a woman were shot and killed by security forces in St Andrew in the early hours of Sunday morning, Jamaica Observer reports, following what police described as a confrontation with armed individuals.

Around 2:00 a.m., a police team intercepted a motorcar believed to have been connected to several robberies in the Corporate Area. As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, one of its occupants allegedly pointed a firearm at them. Police then took evasive action before opening fire on the car.

The three occupants were found inside the vehicle with gunshot wounds and were transported to Kingston Public Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Their identities have not yet been confirmed.

Two illegal firearms were recovered at the scene.

The shooting adds to a rising toll of fatal police engagements this year. At least 212 people have been killed by Jamaican security forces since January, according to the latest figures published by the Independent Commission of Investigation.
