Two men and a woman were shot and killed by Jamaican security forces in St Andrew in the early hours of Sunday morning, jamaica-gleaner.com reports, following a confrontation in which a suspect allegedly pointed a gun at officers.

According to police, a patrol team intercepted a motorcar at around 2:00 a.m. that was believed to be linked to multiple robberies in the Corporate Area. As officers moved to stop the vehicle, one of its occupants pointed a firearm at them. Police then took evasive action before opening fire.

All three occupants — two men and a woman — were found inside the vehicle with gunshot wounds. They were transported to the Kingston Public Hospital, where they were all pronounced dead. Their identities had not been confirmed at the time of reporting.

Two illegal firearms were recovered from the scene during the incident.

The shootings add to a rising toll of fatal police encounters in Jamaica. At least 212 people have been killed by the country's security forces since the start of 2026, according to figures published by the Independent Commission of Investigation.
