Triple shooting at Robins Bay bar leaves three dead, community in shock

Three men were killed after gunmen opened fire inside and outside a bar in Robins Bay, St Mary. The victims' families and neighbours are reeling from the attack.

Lorraine Narine was at a grave digging in St Mary on Wednesday when a loud sound made her stop. Moments later, someone brought her the news no mother wants to hear — her son had been shot.

According to jamaica-gleaner.com, Narine's son, 22-year-old Sazaree Clarke, was killed alongside 60-year-old bar owner Marlon James and 42-year-old mason Peter John Fagan, all residents of Robins Bay. The shooting took place at approximately 4:40 p.m., according to the Jamaica Constabulary Force's communication arm.

Police said gunmen travelling in a motor vehicle entered the bar and opened fire on the bar operator and a patron inside. A third man, who was standing outside the establishment, was also shot as the gunmen left. All three were taken to hospital, where they were pronounced dead. The gunmen fled the area after the attack.

Narine had passed by the bar earlier that same afternoon, on her way to the grave digging, where she looked for Clarke but did not find him. She recalled seeing two of the men who would later be killed, and said the bar owner had called out to her before she continued on her way.

Then came the sound — what she initially took for a car muffler — before those around her relayed the devastating news.

"An mi run and mi run, and mi reach there, mi drop down two times," she told jamaica-gleaner.com, fighting back tears.

She described Clarke, also known as Joel, as a "mama's boy" — quiet, close to home, and not involved in wrongdoing. At the time of the shooting, he was still recovering from a bicycle accident, with a pin in his hand and 21 stitches in his head.

"Mi know my son. I can speak for my son," Narine said. "When everybody gone, him left me, him deh wid me, him cook fi me."

She also described the other two victims, including one who was her cousin, as peaceful men who gave no one trouble.

Her account of the community's reaction reflected the wider shock felt in Robins Bay. "Everybody surprised. The place dig up differently," she said. "We have some of them wey feel dead, dead, dead, dead, dead, because they know people dem no gi trouble."

The killings have shaken the rural parish, where such violence is uncommon. Members of the Major Investigation Division are investigating the triple murder.
