Two Jamaica Police Officers Charged with Murder and Assault by Indecom
A corporal faces murder charges over an off-duty 2025 shooting in St James, while a district constable is charged with assault after CCTV footage contradicted his account.

Two JCF Officers Appear in Court Over Separate Violence Incidents
A Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) corporal who claimed he acted in self-defence during an off-duty shooting has been charged with murder, the Jamaica Observer reports, after investigators found his account did not match the evidence.
Corporal Randy Campbell appeared before the St James Parish Court on Wednesday, facing charges of murder and wounding with intent in connection with an incident on April 29, 2025, in Granville, St James. One man, identified as Kyron Cameron, died as a result of the shooting; a second man was wounded.
Campbell told authorities that the two men had been attempting to disarm him when he discharged his weapon. However, the Independent Commission of Investigations (Indecom) found evidence during its investigation that was inconsistent with that account. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions subsequently directed that charges be laid.
The case was initially heard at the St James Parish Court and has since been transferred to the St James Circuit Court. Campbell was granted bail of $1 million, subject to one to three sureties and reporting conditions. A case management hearing is scheduled for April 29, 2027.
In a separate matter, District Constable Lennox Lawood of the JCF appeared before the St Thomas Parish Court by summons on the same day. He faces a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, arising from an incident on December 22, 2025, along Seaforth Main Road in St Thomas.
Indecom stated that CCTV footage obtained during the investigation corroborates the complainant's allegation that Lawood delivered an unprovoked slap to the face. The court recommended that an assessment be carried out to determine whether the accused officer is fit to plead. That matter is scheduled to return to court on December 14, 2026.
Both cases were brought following Indecom investigations into alleged misconduct by members of the security forces.
