JCF commissioner vows relentless pursuit after two officers die in Sligoville attack
At least two members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force were killed and a third injured during an operation in Sligoville, St Catherine on Friday, jamaica-gleaner.com reports. Police Commissioner Dr Kevin Blake swiftly condemned the attack, posting a video message to the JCF's social media pages.
"The High Command of the Jamaica Constabulary Force condemns in the strongest possible terms the deadly attack on our officers during an operation in Sligoville, St Catherine today," Blake said in the statement.
Blake extended condolences to the families of the deceased officers, describing the incident as a stark reminder of the dangers members of the force face in the line of duty. "This tragedy lays bare the brutal conditions our officers confront daily, pursuing the most violent elements in our society, so that Jamaicans can live without fear," he said.
The commissioner acknowledged that every officer deployed on an operation was expected to return home safely — an expectation he said had been shattered by Friday's events. "We expect every officer we deploy to return home safely. Today that expectation was shattered," Blake stated.
Despite the loss, Blake made clear the JCF's resolve remained firm. "Let there be no misunderstanding — the Jamaica Constabulary Force will not be intimidated. We will not retreat, and we will not relent," he said.
Blake added that those responsible for the attack, along with the criminal networks supporting them, would be pursued and brought to justice.
