Two Wanted Men Killed in Separate Police Confrontations

The Jamaica Observer reports that two wanted men were fatally shot in separate confrontations with police in St Catherine and St James on the same day, with two firearms and several rounds of ammunition recovered at the scenes.

Raheem Chantiloupe, 23, of Portmore, St Catherine, was killed after he allegedly opened fire on officers conducting a foot patrol in Naggo Head. Police returned fire, and Chantiloupe was shot. A .380 semi-automatic pistol and seven 9mm rounds of ammunition were seized. Chantiloupe had been wanted in connection with the February 2012 murder of Shaun Preddie in Naggo Head.

In the second incident, Daniel Whittaker, 21, also known as 'Dan Dan', of Salt Spring, St James, was shot at approximately 3:50 pm in the Bottom Melbourne area. A team of officers carrying out an operation in the community came under fire from fleeing gunmen and returned fire. A Smith and Wesson Springfield pistol loaded with nine 9mm rounds was recovered from Whittaker.

Whittaker was a top-tier member of the G-City gang in Salt Spring and had been wanted for questioning in relation to several murders in the parish.

Both incidents are now under investigation by the Inspectorate of Constabulary (IOC) and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
