Suspect killed after allegedly drawing weapon on officers in St Catherine

A wanted man was fatally shot by police in Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Thursday night, jamaica-gleaner.com reports.

The deceased has been identified as Anthony Theo Williams, also known as 'Intra-Tech', of a Kingston 20 address. Williams was wanted in connection with murder and other crimes committed in the Corporate Area.

At around 9:30 pm, officers received a tip that an armed man had been spotted at a shopping complex along Old Harbour Road. A police team responded and tactically approached the location.

Williams was reportedly observed walking out of a store when officers identified themselves. He allegedly pointed a firearm in their direction, at which point police took evasive action and opened fire. He fell at the scene with the weapon in his possession.

The firearm — recovered by officers — was identified as a Beretta pistol.

Williams was transported to Spanish Town General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has since launched a probe into the circumstances of the shooting.
