A woman was arrested and charged in Westmoreland during a crackdown on illegal lottery activities. She is due in court in December.

The Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission announced Wednesday that a woman had been arrested and charged in Westmoreland as part of a targeted enforcement operation against illegal lottery activity, jamaica-gleaner.com reports.

The operation, conducted with police support, took place in Farm district in Smithfield. Authorities allege the woman was actively selling tickets for an unauthorised lottery.

She was charged with breaches of the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act and released on station bail of $100,000. Her court appearance is scheduled for December.

The commission issued a warning alongside the arrest, reminding individuals and businesses that participation in or facilitation of unauthorised betting, gaming or lottery activities may lead to enforcement action and criminal prosecution.
