The jury trial of Lorin Scicluna, accused of the racially motivated murder of Lassana Cisse, entered its fourth day on Thursday with further witness testimony.

Day four of the Lassana Cisse murder trial underway in Valletta

The jury trial of Lorin Scicluna, who stands accused of the racially motivated murder of Lassana Cisse, continued on Thursday morning before Madam Justice Natasha Galea Sciberras, maltatoday.com.mt reports. Scicluna faces a potential life sentence if found guilty.

The first witness of the day was lawyer Steven Farrugia Sacco, who had prepared two reports as part of the inquiry. The first concerned the collection and analysis of digital files, though he did not specify their contents in detail. The second analysed call and SMS data linked to two mobile phone numbers, seeking to establish the nature of communication between them. The expert confirmed that the examination produced findings, with conclusions set out at the end of the report.

Wednesday's sitting had seen jurors presented with screenshots extracted from the mobile phone of co-accused Francesco Fenech, including Nazi imagery, extremist quotes relating to firearms, and messages of a militaristic nature. At the defence's request, jurors were also shown an image of Fenech posing beside a vehicle bearing a Nazi Eagle emblem on its windscreen.

Court-appointed IT expert Martin Bajada guided the jury through CCTV footage recorded on the night of the murder, tracing the movements of vehicles and individuals captured near the scene shortly before the fatal shooting. The court was also presented with graphic autopsy photographs, bloodstained clothing belonging to Cisse, and personal belongings recovered following the incident.

A former taxi driver who discovered Cisse's body lying in the road and contacted the emergency services also gave testimony during Wednesday's proceedings.

Thursday's sitting was expected to continue with further witness examinations as the court proceeds through the evidence surrounding the fatal shooting and the events leading up to Cisse's death.

Scicluna is represented by defence lawyers Edward Gatt, Kris Busietta and Alessandro Farrugia. The prosecution is led by Darlene Grima, Abigail Caruana Vella and Michaela Aquilina from the Attorney General's Office. Madam Justice Natasha Galea Sciberras is presiding.
