Man arrested in Poland over alleged plot to kill PM Donald Tusk
Polish police have detained a man suspected of planning an attack on Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The arrest follows a week of school stabbings and heightened security concerns.

Suspect held over alleged threat against Polish Prime Minister
Polish police have arrested a man on suspicion of planning an attack against Prime Minister Donald Tusk, europeaninterest.eu reports, citing confirmation from Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński on Sunday. The minister did not disclose the suspect's identity or reveal specific details about the alleged plot.
Earlier that same morning, Poland's police had received intelligence about a possible threat targeting both Tusk and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the minister overseeing Poland's intelligence services, said authorities assess there is a "high probability" the threats could materialise. His statement came after an emergency meeting bringing together security services, police, and representatives from the Interior Ministry.
Dobrzyński said the threat information first reached the state protection service, which then passed it on to the police. He noted a rising trend of various threats that intelligence services have been monitoring on a monthly basis, but declined to offer further specifics about the reported plot.
Government spokesperson Adam Szłapka told Polish media that Tusk was informed of the threat early on Sunday morning. While acknowledging that threats are not unusual, Szłapka said this case was deemed "exceptionally concerning."
Tusk himself welcomed the speed of the police response. "The man who threatened an attack was detained. Thanks to the police for their fast and decisive action," he said.
The arrest comes during a period of heightened tension in Poland. This week, three separate stabbing incidents occurred at schools in Mazovia province in central Poland over a span of just four days, leaving one person dead and several others injured, including children.
Concerns over external threats are also running high. In September, Tusk had warned of growing risks posed by Russian hybrid operations targeting NATO's eastern flank, suggesting Russia may seek to undermine European nations supporting Ukraine in order to weaken Western solidarity with Kyiv. Moscow has denied any such involvement.
Poland currently maintains an elevated security posture amid what officials describe as a convergence of internal incidents and external pressure linked to Russia's ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
