Masked gang stabs father and son in Leicestershire home
A 15-year-old boy and his father, a man in his 50s, are in a critical condition in hospital after masked intruders broke into their home in Thurnby, Leicestershire, in the early hours of Thursday 8 October, lbc.co.uk reports.
Police received a call at 12.26am following reports of a disturbance at a property on Station Road, at the corner of Somerby Road. The victims have been named as Imrane Chelirem, 15, and his father Mohamed.
Both were stabbed, with the father sustaining multiple stab wounds. A woman in her forties, also present during the attack, was assaulted and received minor injuries to her hand and shoulder. She has since been discharged from hospital.
Leicestershire Police confirmed that firearms officers attended the scene in the interests of public and officer safety, but the offenders had already left by the time officers arrived. A scene preservation order remains in place at the address to allow for a full forensic examination.
Detective Inspector Lorna Granville, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU), said the assault appeared to have been "completely unprovoked" and that officers are working to establish a motive.
"This was a violent attack against a family in their own home which appears to have been completely unprovoked," Granville said. "Our investigation to understand what happened and why — and identify those behind such a horrific criminal act — is going to continue over the weekend."
Granville issued a direct appeal to residents in Thurnby and surrounding communities, urging anyone with information to come forward.
"I'd like to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, unusual or untoward in the area of Station Road and Somerby Road between 11pm on Wednesday and the early hours of yesterday morning," she said. "This includes anyone who was driving in the area and captured anything on a dashcam or anyone with CCTV or doorbell footage."
She added: "Anything you're able to provide, no matter how insignificant you think it might be, could help us. We owe it to the victims to locate the perpetrators and bring them to justice."
