Bodycam footage released of Luigi Mangione's arrest at Pennsylvania McDonald's
A judge has unsealed police bodycam footage showing the arrest of Luigi Mangione at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in December 2024.

Police bodycam footage released on Friday shows officers locating and arresting Luigi Mangione at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania, following the fatal shooting of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan, theguardian.com reports.
In one recording, officers ask Mangione to lower the face mask he had been wearing to conceal his identity. "That's 100% him," one officer says as they step outside, out of Mangione's earshot. "I told you, man," a second officer responds off camera.
In a later sequence, an officer searches Mangione's belongings and smiles as she removes a gun cartridge — an apparent confirmation that they had found their suspect.
The footage stems from Mangione's arrest on 9 December 2024, five days after Thompson, a 50-year-old Minnesota executive, was shot dead as he walked to a midtown Manhattan hotel for his company's annual investor conference.
A Manhattan judge unsealed the recordings after CNN petitioned for their release. Portions of the videos had already been shown during a December court hearing, at which Mangione's lawyers unsuccessfully sought to have key evidence suppressed — including his initial statements to police and items seized at the time of his arrest.
Mangione pleaded guilty in August to federal stalking charges and faces a potential life sentence when he is sentenced in December. He also faces murder charges in New York state court, though those proceedings have been postponed indefinitely while his lawyers pursue a motion to have the case dismissed.
