Suspect in custody after Tattersall Lane barricade standoff
A man is in custody following a lengthy standoff with Colonie Police on Tattersall Lane, timesunion.com reports. Officers were called to the scene around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a report of a domestic violence incident and a man committing acts of self-harm.
When officers arrived, the man had barricaded himself inside the home. At one point, he displayed a handgun to police, according to Police Chief James Gerace.
"He had made statements that he wanted the police to kill him, he wanted us to end his life," Gerace said. "We took it real slow, real methodical. Our officers used proper tactics; we used our negotiators. We ultimately just resolved the incident a few moments ago. He agreed to come out."
Gerace confirmed the situation ended peacefully. Police intend to execute a search warrant on the property to recover the weapon.
Tattersall Lane and portions of Stirrup Drive were blocked off by emergency vehicles during the incident. Colonie EMS, Troy Police, the New York State Police, and doctors from Albany Medical Center were all present at the scene.
