A murder suspect remains at large following a fatal shooting in the parking lot of a Wawa convenience store in Toms River, New Jersey, nbcphiladelphia.com reports.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer confirmed on Saturday that an arrest warrant has been issued for Douglas Cobb, 51, in connection with the death of Bruce Gress, 42. Cobb faces charges of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and related offences.

At approximately 7:20 a.m. on 18 September, officers from the Toms River Township Police Department responded to the Wawa at the corner of Route 37 and Garfield Avenue after reports of a person with a gunshot wound. Officers found Gress with a gunshot wound to the head. First responders transported him to a nearby hospital, where he died.

Investigators identified Cobb as the suspect and he is now classified as a fugitive. He is also known as Douglas Green and goes by the nickname "Bootknock." He was last seen driving a black 2016 Acura MDX bearing New Jersey registration T93YJL.

"Great teamwork has been exhibited by all of the respective law enforcement agencies and officers involved in this investigation," Prosecutor Billhimer stated. "Our focus now is to locate Douglas Cobb and bring him into custody."

Billhimer also urged those close to Cobb to encourage him to surrender. "We ask anyone that knows Cobb to advise him to turn himself in peacefully," he said.
