Two arrested after multi-state chase from Tennessee into Kentucky

A cross-state police pursuit ended in Warren County, Kentucky, with two arrests after the driver allegedly fired a weapon. Edward Brown faces an attempted murder charge involving a police officer.

Driver fires weapon during interstate pursuit, two taken into custody in Warren County

Two people were arrested in Warren County, Kentucky, following a cross-state police chase that originated in Tennessee, wsmv.com reports. One of the suspects faces an attempted murder charge involving a law enforcement officer.

Around midnight on 18 September, Kentucky State Police (KSP) received notification from the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) of an active pursuit involving a vehicle from which shots had reportedly been fired. THP identified the driver as the subject of a "be on the lookout" issued out of Tennessee.

The vehicle crossed into Kentucky while being pursued by the Portland Police Department. THP informed Kentucky law enforcement that the driver had discharged a firearm during the chase.

KSP and other Kentucky law enforcement agencies joined the pursuit as the vehicle travelled north on Interstate 65. Multiple attempts to deploy spike strips failed to stop the car, which continued north before exiting onto I-165 at Exit 20. The vehicle then turned south on I-165 before exiting onto Plano Road, eventually coming to a stop on Dewey Lake Road.

The driver was identified as Edward Brown, 26, of Madisonville, Kentucky. His passenger, Anastasia Payton, 22, of Dawson Springs, Kentucky, fled on foot after the vehicle stopped. Both were subsequently taken into custody and transported to Warren County Regional Jail.

Brown was charged in connection with the attempted murder of a police officer, among other offences. Payton also faces charges. The Warren County Sheriff's Office noted that Payton had been listed in the National Crime Information Center as a missing person.
