Nampa teen arrested for murder of stepfather in New Plymouth shooting
A 19-year-old from Nampa has been charged with first-degree murder after fatally shooting his stepfather at a home in New Plymouth, Idaho.

A 19-year-old Nampa man has been charged with first-degree murder following the fatal shooting of his stepfather at a residential address in New Plymouth, Idaho, idahonews.com reports.
Michael Dudley was taken into custody at the scene on Friday, 18 September 2026, and booked into the Payette County Jail on one count of first-degree murder. The victim, 47-year-old Howard Schofield IV, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies and first responders were dispatched to a home on SW 4th Avenue near Adams Road at approximately 7:30 p.m. after a resident called 911 to report a shooting. Officers from the Payette County Sheriff's Office, the Payette Police Department, and the Fruitland Police Department responded alongside Payette County paramedics. Life-saving measures were performed on Schofield, but proved unsuccessful.
The person who placed the 911 call was not physically harmed. Authorities confirmed that no other individuals were injured and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. No additional suspects or persons of interest have been identified.
The Payette County Coroner's Office is set to conduct an autopsy. Next of kin have been notified.
Dudley's initial court appearance was scheduled for Monday, 21 September 2026. The investigation is being led by the Payette County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Idaho State Police Forensic Services crime lab and the Payette County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
