Suspect killed after shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend
A suspect was shot and killed at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, on 15 October, with multiple victims reported — including children — according to statesmanjournal.com.
Bend Police spokesperson Sheila Miller told reporters that dispatch received the first call at 12:59 p.m., reporting a shot fired into a car. One minute later, dispatch initiated a "tone" alerting all officers to respond to a critical incident. Officers arrived on scene by 1:02 p.m., Miller said, with the agency receiving multiple 911 calls within that two-minute window.
A large police presence was reported near the school from around 1:19 p.m. Miller confirmed the shooter was "down" inside the building.
Two victims were transported to St. Charles Medical Center. The extent of their injuries remained unclear at the time of the briefing.
It was not established who shot the suspect. Miller said it "may have been a bystander."
Oregon Governor Tina Kotek said on social media she was "closely monitoring the situation." Kotek added: "I am grateful to the first responders who are on the scene. I will share as I learn more."
