St Philip sailor's cannabis trial heads to jury after eight years

A nine-member jury will decide the fate of a St Philip sailor charged with importing and possessing 121.4 kilogrammes of cannabis, more than eight years after the drugs were discovered on board a yacht, Barbados Today reports.

Walter Oneal Prescod, of Emerald Park East, St Philip, has pleaded not guilty to three charges: possessing 121.4kg of cannabis within Barbados' territorial waters, importing the substance, and having a traffickable quantity of the drug. All three charges relate to 23 July 2018.

Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell is scheduled to deliver her summation of the evidence on Thursday before passing the case to the jury for deliberation.

Acting Director of Public Prosecutions Alliston Seale SC and acting Senior State Counsel Paul Prescod are representing the Crown. Defence attorneys Sade Harris and Elan Greenidge appear on behalf of Prescod.
