Two hit-and-run incidents on Sint Eustatius; police seek witnesses
Two hit-and-run crashes occurred on Sint Eustatius on 22 and 23 August, injuring a minor. Police also held a traffic control check, issuing three fines.
Two hit-and-runs on Sint Eustatius within 24 hours
According to 721news Sint Maarten, two separate hit-and-run incidents took place on Sint Eustatius over the weekend of 22 and 23 August.
The first occurred on Saturday, 22 August, at around 6:35 PM. The central control room received a report of a collision on Charles A. Woodley Road, near a local supermarket. A car struck a minor riding a fatbike and drove away without stopping. Ambulance personnel treated the injured minor at the scene.
The following evening, Sunday 23 August at approximately 6:45 PM, a second hit-and-run took place on Dr. H.A. Korthalsweg. A scooter carrying two riders — presumed to be minors — collided with a car that was turning left onto L.E. Saddler Road. After the impact, the scooter left the scene.
Police have called on anyone with information about either incident to report to the police station or to call +599 318 2333. Investigations into both cases are ongoing.
Traffic control yields three fines
Separately, in the early evening hours of Saturday 22 August, police conducted a planned traffic control on Father van Tefelenweg and Van Tonningenweg on Sint Eustatius.
Officers checked a total of 17 vehicles, including cars and scooters. Three official reports were drawn up: two for driving without paid road tax and one for driving without a helmet.
Authorities stated that traffic controls will continue.
