Brazilian digital marketer, 24, killed at São Paulo ranch after breaking up with boyfriend over phone

Priscila Lacerda Custodio, 24, was shot dead at the property of cattle rancher João Roberto Bolelli, 62, in São Paulo state on Friday, moments after ending their relationship by phone, nypost.com reports.

The couple had been together for just four months. According to an unidentified friend who spoke to Brazilian broadcaster Globo, Custodio had grown increasingly afraid of Bolelli in the weeks before her death — telling those close to her that he had hired people to follow her, threatened to kill her, and repeatedly accused her of cheating on him during trips she took.

Four days before the shooting, Bolelli allegedly assaulted her.

On Friday, Custodio brought her brother and a friend with her when she drove to Bolelli's ranch to return a pickup truck she had been using. The group argued during a phone call before they arrived, at which point Custodio told Bolelli the relationship was over. When she reached the property, Bolelli allegedly opened fire, striking her in the chest and arm.

He then turned the weapon on her brother, chasing him before fleeing the scene.

An arrest warrant has been issued. Authorities are treating the killing as femicide.

Bolelli has a prior conviction for breaching a restraining order obtained by a different former partner. He was sentenced to three months and 15 days in prison in December 2021.

Friends described Custodio, who worked in digital marketing, as warm and well-regarded. "She was beautiful, charming, and extremely polite," her friend Juliana Amaral told Globo. "In three years of friendship, I never saw her speak badly of anyone."

A legal representative for Bolelli told the outlet that the case was under review but that the suspect had not been in contact.
