Arrest made in death of Montreal woman attacked mid-Zoom call
Montreal police arrested 33-year-old Youcef Moussaoui on Thursday in the Ville-Marie borough in connection with the killing of a 45-year-old woman last month, Global News Crime reports. Moussaoui, who had been wanted on an arrest warrant, is expected to appear at the Montreal courthouse Friday to face a charge of first-degree murder.
The victim, Leila Ben Salem, was found unresponsive inside an apartment building on René-Lévesque Boulevard near St-Christophe Street on September 22. Officers responded to a wellness check call at around 3:25 p.m. and pronounced her dead at the scene.
Sources confirmed to Global News Crime that Ben Salem was on a work-related Zoom call at the time she was attacked. The death was initially classified as suspicious before the case was transferred to the homicide unit. Investigators spent the following day at the scene, reviewing surveillance footage and processing the apartment building.
Police stated the killing was not related to intimate partner violence. Evidence gathered during the investigation, including the alleged motive, will be disclosed through the court process.
