Montreal police have arrested Youcef Moussaoui, 33, in connection with the killing of Leila Ben Salem, a 45-year-old Canada Revenue Agency employee found dead in her Ville-Marie apartment last month, cbc.ca reports.

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) issued a warrant for Moussaoui, who was taken into custody Thursday afternoon. He was expected to appear in a Montreal court Friday to face a charge of first-degree murder.

The case dates to September 22, when a 911 caller requested a wellness check at an apartment building on René-Lévesque Boulevard, near Saint-Christophe Street, at approximately 3:25 p.m. Officers found Ben Salem unresponsive and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police stated the case does not involve intimate partner violence. Evidence and suspected motivation, they said, will be disclosed during the judicial process.

Ben Salem was later identified by the Union of Taxation Employees. Federal party leaders paid tribute to her following news of her death.

The killing was recorded as the 19th homicide in the SPVM's territory this year.
