Two arrested for sexual assaults in downtown Toronto; gunfire reported across Durham Region
Toronto Police have charged two men following separate sexual assaults last month in the same area of the city's downtown core, Toronto Sun Crime reports.
The first arrest stems from an incident on Oct. 19 in the Church-Gloucester Sts. area. According to police, the suspect approached a victim at Barbara Hall Park and provided them with illicit substances. He then took the victim to a private residence, where he allegedly supplied more substances before sexually assaulting them.
Waleed Ameen Adam Abdelrahman, 33, of Toronto, was arrested on Oct. 26 and charged with sexual assault. Investigators believe additional victims may exist and have asked anyone with information to call 416-808-7474.
Rideshare driver charged after front-seat assault
A second, unrelated arrest followed a sexual assault on Oct. 31 in the Yonge St.–Wellesley St. E. area. The victim had been picked up by a rideshare vehicle at approximately 9:50 p.m. and sat in the front seat, where the driver allegedly assaulted her.
Upon reaching the destination, the victim attempted to leave the vehicle but was allegedly prevented from doing so and assaulted a second time. She eventually managed to exit without her purse, at which point the driver allegedly pursued and assaulted her once more.
Sahib Brar, 32, of Brampton, has been charged with forcible confinement and two counts of sexual assault. Police believe there may be further victims in this case and have directed anyone with information to call 416-808-2200.
Isolated shootings in Ajax and Pickering under investigation
Durham Regional Police are separately investigating two "isolated" shooting incidents that occurred on Sunday in Ajax and Pickering.
The first was reported at approximately 2:30 a.m. in the Chalmers-Blackburn Cres. area of Ajax, where residents heard possible gunshots. Officers discovered damage to a home, a garage and two parked vehicles, along with several shell casings on the roadway. Three adults were inside the residence at the time; no physical injuries were reported.
Later that evening, at around 8:25 p.m., a second incident was reported in Pickering's Shadybrook Dr.–Edgewood Rd. area. A resident contacted police after hearing multiple gunshots outside their home. Investigators found several shell casings on the roadway and confirmed that the residence and two parked vehicles had sustained damage. Again, no injuries were reported.
Investigators are looking for a lone male suspect dressed in black who approached the Ajax residence on foot, discharged multiple rounds at the vehicles and then fled on foot. Durham Regional Police said they believe the two shootings are not connected to each other and asked anyone with relevant information to contact the West Division criminal investigations branch at 905-579-1520, Ext. 1905.
