Vaughan resident faces charge after Richmond Hill woman killed in hit-and-run

A 41-year-old Vaughan man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that killed a 60-year-old Richmond Hill woman earlier this month, cbc.ca reports.

On Oct. 4, the woman was struck by a vehicle travelling northbound on Pine Valley Drive near Major Mackenzie Drive in Vaughan. The driver left the scene without stopping. Two days later, the woman was found dead.

York Regional Police arrested Kamel Hazime of Vaughan on Friday. He now faces a charge of failure to stop after an accident resulting in death.

The suspect vehicle — identified by police on Friday as a white 2020–2022 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van — has not yet been located. Investigators released video footage showing the van in the area on the day of the incident and confirmed that debris linked to the vehicle was recovered at the scene.

Police are calling on anyone with information, or anyone who may have been approached to repair a damaged van, to contact York Regional Police or Crime Stoppers.

Investigators warned that assisting in concealing, repairing or altering the suspect vehicle could constitute a criminal offence. "This includes anyone who performs or arranges body work, paint work or mechanical repairs intended to conceal damage caused in this collision," police said in a news release.
