Two charged with murder of Uruguayan Migales in Palermo
Argentine courts have charged two men with the murder of Carlos Andrés Migales Viera, 29, who was shot multiple times in the Palermo neighbourhood of Buenos Aires during the early hours of Sunday, 4 October. According to confirmation from Montevideo Portal, investigators link the incident to a settling of accounts.
The accused were identified as Cristian Nahuel Paiva, 20, and Ulises Aladro, 21, both residents of Longchamps in Buenos Aires Province. A third suspect remains at large.
The judge ruled to charge them with homicide, illegal possession of the weapon allegedly used in the crime and use of a vehicle reported as stolen. That vehicle proved crucial to the investigation: the attackers had chosen it to flee after the murder, but the vehicle failed to start at the moment of escape, which thwarted their getaway.
The crime occurred in a flat located on Costa Rica Street at number 5200, where Migales was with his partner. The attackers entered the building and fired at the Uruguayan, who died from his wounds.
A detail that caught investigators' attention was that the attackers accessed the building without forcing any entry, which reinforced the hypothesis that they had prior information about the victim's movements.
The Uruguayan Ministry of the Interior indicated that the deceased had a criminal record and had been linked to the criminal organisation known as Los Puglia. The Uruguayan authorities clarified, however, that Migales was not wanted by the courts at the time of his death and that they sent his record to Argentine investigators to collaborate in clarifying the case.
