Arrested with cocaine hidden in a sock in front of his residence
A 21-year-old man was apprehended on Friday 21 August, at approximately 19:45, at the intersection of Las Heras street and Yuquerí Boulevard, after motorised police officers allegedly caught him offering narcotics for sale, according to diarioriouguay.com.
The operation was carried out as part of preventive patrol duties. The officers observed the young man—who was injured and moved about with crutches—sitting next to a woman in a beach chair on the pavement, in front of a residence.
Upon noticing the presence of the uniformed officers, the young man attempted to discard a sock he was carrying. Inside it, the officers found several wrappings containing a white powder substance.
Personnel from the Dangerous Drugs Division conducted the corresponding analysis of the seized substance and determined it was cocaine hydrochloride. Following this result, the on-call prosecutor's office was notified.
Prosecutor Dr Julia Rivoira ordered the arrest of the 21-year-old man and his transfer as part of the proceedings initiated. She also ordered that the woman present at the scene be properly identified and that proceedings continue to establish the circumstances of the incident.
As part of the procedure, the seizure of the wrappings containing cocaine was also ordered. The operation concluded with one person arrested, a woman identified, and narcotics material seized, all by order of Prosecutor Rivoira.
