Murder trial in José C. Paz: young man, 26, killed for his motorcycle

Two accused before court for the killing of a fuel attendant from Manuel Alberti

On Wednesday, the oral and public trial begins for the murder of Sebastián Ochoa, a 26-year-old from Manuel Alberti who was shot and killed during a robbery in José C. Paz in January 2024, according to pilaradiario.com.

The Criminal Oral Tribunal No. 7 of San Martín will hear the case against Hernán Ariel Bonda and Elías Santiago Fernández, charged with aggravated robbery by use of firearm in conjunction with qualified homicide. Both charges carry a life sentence.

A third defendant, Juan Eduardo Saavedra, is not charged with homicide but with obstruction of justice and illegal possession of civilian-use firearms.

The investigation determined that at least four people participated in the attack, but only Bonda and Fernández were detained as perpetrators of the crime. The others appear in the case file without having been captured, given that there was insufficient evidence to order their preventive detention.

The facts occurred on 19 January 2024, around 6.30am, at the corner of Luis María Drago and C. Brughetti, in a residential area of José C. Paz. Ochoa worked as a fuel attendant at a Shell service station a few blocks away and was preparing to return to his home on the motorcycle he had acquired months earlier.

En route, two criminals intercepted him with the intention to rob him. The victim received a gunshot in the back that caused his death on the spot. The thieves took the motorcycle, wallet and mobile telephone before fleeing.

Personnel from the 2nd precinct of José C. Paz arrived at the scene after the 911 call and carried out initial proceedings. Experts from the Scientific Police seized a spent .22 calibre cartridge case at the scene.

Ochoa was 26 years old and was just days away from becoming a father.
