According to canal13sanjuan.com, the Santa Fe courts formalised the charges against R.A.M., 22, for the homicide of her son Izan Aguirre, 6, who was found dead in the residence the two shared in the locality of San Justo. During the hearing on criminal charges, the Public Prosecution Office (MPA) charged her with aggravated homicide based on the family relationship, a charge that carries a sentence of life imprisonment.
The preliminary results of the autopsy proved decisive in proceeding with the accusation. Forensic studies established that the cause of death of the child was asphyxiation by strangulation, whether mechanical or manual.
At the joint request of the prosecution and defence, the court ordered the urgent intervention of a Special Mental Health Board. The multidisciplinary team must evaluate the accused to determine whether at the time of the incident she presented an acute condition that would have prevented her from understanding her actions, and whether she currently has the mental fitness necessary to face the judicial process.
The accused will remain detained under the custody of the Penitentiary Service by court order. At the same time, investigators are proceeding with the analysis of mobile phones and other material seized from the residence, with the aim of reconstructing the hours before the child's death.
