Diego Sebastián Rosen, the Argentine citizen detained as the alleged perpetrator of the multiple murder that occurred in the State of Mexico, was facing a fraud investigation and had an arrest warrant against him at the time of the crimes, according to reporting by rosario.mitelefe.com.
The General Prosecution Office of the State of Mexico had issued that warrant as part of proceedings involving alleged irregularities linked to the rental of holiday properties. However, Rosen obtained an injunction 15 days before the murders, which allowed him to remain at liberty.
The homicides took place on Tuesday, 1 September. The victims were identified as Jonathan Meléndez Ochoa—keyboardist and producer for the band Camilo Séptimo—, his 35-year-old wife who was pregnant, their 3-year-old daughter, a 21-year-old domestic employee, and the family pet. One of the children managed to survive by hiding inside a piece of furniture.
Investigators reconstructed events based on a conversation Meléndez Ochoa had with a friend identified as Freddy, to whom he had warned about the risk he faced.
"If I don't answer tonight, report it to the authorities. You already know I have some trouble with Diego," the musician told him.
According to the judicial reconstruction, Meléndez entered his home and found Rosen inside. The two argued over money; the alleged perpetrator gagged him and subsequently killed him. The conflicts between the two went back some time, according to local media that covered the case.
