Cristian "Pity" Álvarez promised to return to perform in San Juan in 2027, although the date depends on the outcome of the criminal trial he faces for homicide. According to 0264noticias.com.ar, the musician made the statement in an interview with Max Radio, ahead of a show he will perform in Mendoza.
"We're going to take some time to record, but next year we'll be out there, in San Juan," Álvarez said, generating excitement amongst his fans in the province, who until then had been coordinating trips to Mendoza to see him perform.
In the same interview, the singer from Viejas Locas and Intoxicados recalled a previous performance in the province: "I feel I have a little bit of San Juan people's DNA. I have family in San Juan. I remember a performance at the Dique de Ullum, for a Spring celebration. It was very nice to look back while we were playing. I remember the sun was setting. It was impressive."
However, the musician himself acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the announcement. Álvarez will stand trial on 10 August for the "simple homicide" of Cristian Maximiliano Díaz, 36, which occurred in July 2018. The victim received four gunshots following a dispute with the musician outside tower 12 of the Samoré neighbourhood, in Villa Lugano, Buenos Aires.
The case, which had remained suspended since 7 March 2023, was recently reactivated. In setting the trial date, the court also imposed on Álvarez a prohibition against leaving the country and against being absent from Buenos Aires City without prior authorisation.
The combination of both announcements—the artistic comeback and the judicial restriction—keeps any concrete commitment by the artist outside the Argentine capital uncertain for the coming year.
