Fugitive wanted for homicide in La Matanza was evangelical pastor: arrested after three years

According to argentina.gob.ar, the Investigative Division of the Argentine Federal Police (PFA) arrested a 46-year-old man who had been a fugitive since 2021 accused of aggravated homicide, and who was hiding while working as a pastor in an evangelical community in the western suburbs of Buenos Aires.
The case dates back to mid-March 2021, in González Catán, in the municipality of La Matanza. A couple who were sitting in a parked car were surprised by two armed individuals intent on robbery. When attempting to flee, the driver accelerated the vehicle, which prompted the attackers to open fire repeatedly. The car collided against a post a few metres from the scene.
The attackers approached the damaged vehicle, took money and belongings, and fled. The woman was left with a minor gunshot wound to the hip; her partner died as a result of the severity of the injuries he had received.
One of those involved was quickly arrested and, in June 2023, was sentenced to 21 years in prison. The other accused—the father of the convicted man—managed to evade justice for years.
The Functional Unit for Instruction and Trial Specialising in Homicides of the La Matanza Judicial Department, headed by Dr José Maroto, tasked the Homicides Division of the PFA with locating and capturing the fugitive. The investigations made it possible to establish that the accused had joined an evangelical community in the area, where he worked as a pastor.
The progress of the investigation indicated that the accused would show up at the intersection of Gorostiaga and Colastiné streets, in the locality of Virrey del Pino, to meet with a man with whom he had had a traffic incident days before. Officers deployed a covert surveillance operation and, after identifying him, proceeded to arrest him in a public place.
The detainee, of Argentine nationality, was placed at the disposal of the Court of Guarantees No. 2 of the La Matanza Judicial Department, headed by Dr Agustín Pablo Gossn, in the case of aggravated homicide.
