Major traffic crackdown in Vienna: over 1,100 notices issued and one kilogramme of cannabis seized
During a focused operation by Vienna's State Traffic Department, more than 1,100 notices were issued. A 58-year-old man was arrested with alcohol, drugs and one kilogramme of marijuana in his car.

According to meinbezirk.at, Vienna's State Traffic Department conducted a comprehensive focused operation in road traffic on Friday – with deployments in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. The focus was on heavy goods traffic, hazardous goods transport, load securing and technical regulations.
The checks extended throughout the day and into the night. The officers specifically checked whether drivers were under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.
The results are clear: 878 notices were issued for speeding violations, followed by 288 additional notices from general traffic operations. 32 notices concerned technical defects, 24 further notices related to unauthorised vehicle modifications. Ten registration plates were confiscated – nine of them due to imminent danger. Three individuals were driving without valid driving licences.
Two breath tests came back positive. Two further drivers were referred to the medical officer on suspicion of impairment from narcotics. In all four cases, driving licences were withdrawn.
One case that particularly caught the officers' attention involved a 58-year-old driver who stood out due to aggressive and dangerous driving behaviour. Upon being stopped, it emerged that he was both under the influence of alcohol and impaired by narcotics. When his vehicle was searched, officers found one kilogramme of marijuana. The man and his 56-year-old passenger were provisionally arrested.
Colonel Anders, interim head of Vienna's State Traffic Department, stated: "Such focused operations are particularly important to ensure together that all road users can travel safely."
