Police officer in Carinthia removed from duty following Hitler impersonation and harassment allegations
The Klagenfurt public prosecutor's office is investigating a 47-year-old police officer for violations of the Prohibition Act and suspicion of sexual harassment. According to the Kleine Zeitung, citing the Austria Press Agency, the officer allegedly impersonated Adolf Hitler – whilst on duty.
The police officer, who had been transferred to Carinthia from another federal state and belonged to a special unit there, reportedly understood the impersonation as a "parody". Colleagues saw things differently and filed a report. In addition to the incident, the 47-year-old allegedly behaved inappropriately whilst naked after visiting a shower – several colleagues perceived the behaviour as sexual harassment.
The Carinthian State Police Directorate (LPD) subsequently suspended the officer on 10 August, combined with a significant salary reduction. LPD spokesperson Rainer Dionisio confirmed that the federal disciplinary authority has since also confirmed this measure. The suspension remains in place – even for the duration of any criminal proceedings. The LPD intends to decide on further disciplinary consequences only after the conclusion of such proceedings.
The presumption of innocence applies to the accused.
