Wolfsberg: Online fraudsters lure woman into cryptocurrency trap

As meinbezirk.at reports, a 35-year-old woman from Carinthia in the Wolfsberg district became the victim of online fraud at the end of October. Unknown perpetrators advertised on social networks with the promise of earning high sums of money by simply "liking" products and websites.

To gain the woman's trust, the fraudsters initially transferred small amounts to her – a common tactic to create the impression that the business model was legitimate and actually worked.

Subsequently, the perpetrators asked the 35-year-old to invest several tens of thousands of euros herself. According to police, the money had to be transferred in the form of cryptocurrencies to specified target wallets. In return, she was promised payment of a six-figure euro amount.

However, the promised payment did not materialise. The woman then filed a report with Wolfsberg police.
