According to meinbezirk.at, a police operation took place in Vienna's Brigittenau district on Tuesday evening at approximately 17:45. On Pasettistraße and Schottenaustraße, a man reportedly threatened several pedestrians with a knife – a motive is currently unknown.

Witnesses and those affected provided police with a detailed description of the perpetrator. Shortly afterwards, officers encountered a 46-year-old on Stromstraße, who was sitting on a park bench and matched the description.

During the subsequent search, police officers found a pocket knife – the man is said to have hidden it in his sock. The 46-year-old was temporarily arrested.

Police made no statements regarding a possible motive or background to the incident. On the orders of the Vienna Public Prosecutor's Office, the man was subsequently released on bail pending charges.
