Robbery at Keplerplatz: Briton injures bystander with broken bottle to throat
Following a robbery in Vienna's Favoriten district, the victim injured an uninvolved passer-by with a broken bottle to the throat. The 49-year-old Briton was arrested.

In the weapons ban zone at Keplerplatz in Vienna's Favoriten district, a sequence of violence unfolded Sunday night: According to the Kronen Zeitung, two unknown perpetrators attacked a 49-year-old Briton, beat him and stole his mobile telephone and wallet.
After the perpetrator duo fled, the victim got back up and grabbed a broken glass bottle – apparently with the intention of protecting himself or confronting the attackers. Instead, he struck a completely uninvolved passer-by who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The man suffered a cut wound to the throat area.
When police officers arrived at the scene around 2.30 a.m., the 49-year-old told police spokesperson Irina Steirer that he had mistakenly assumed the passer-by was connected to the robbery. Whether it was actually a case of mistaken identity or a deliberate attack is currently still the subject of the investigation.
The Briton was provisionally arrested and charged. Vienna police have launched an investigation. The original perpetrators of the robbery remain at large.
