Three illegal firearms and 359 rounds of ammunition were voluntarily handed in on Aruba between 24 March and 24 May, according to antilliaansdagblad.com. The collection campaign was named 'Hand it in or we will come and get it' and was jointly carried out by the Aruba Police Corps (KPA) and the Public Prosecutor's Office (OM).
Citizens were able to deposit weapons, components and ammunition anonymously and without criminal consequences via special containers in Oranjestad and San Nicolas. According to the authorities, the surrendered material consisted of a Beretta 9 mm, a Winchester .255 and a Colt .38. The 359 rounds comprised 5 rounds of 9 mm, 332 rounds of .22 calibre and 22 rounds of .38 calibre.
Parallel to the surrender campaign, an investigation into illegal firearms possession was ongoing. Between 1 December 2025 and 29 May 2026, a total of 40 suspects were arrested. During these investigations, 13 firearms were seized, including two manufactured with a 3D printer. Of the 40 suspects, 9 have already received sentences; the remaining cases are awaiting court proceedings.
The KPA and OM stated that the period for voluntary surrender has ended. The campaign is now moving to the next phase, titled 'We will come and get it'. Residents who have information about illegal firearms can make an anonymous report via the police tip line 11141.
