Two members of prison staff were assaulted on Friday morning, around 10 o'clock, by an inmate at Ittre prison, located in Walloon Brabant. According to initial information, the prisoner, in a state of discontent, allegedly struck the two guards. The officers managed to restrain him before he was placed in solitary confinement. The exact reasons for this violence remain to be clarified.
Following the alert, the prison management implemented protocol 507. This emergency measure imposes reduced operations within the facility. Consequently, all visits, activities and yard recreation periods were cancelled until 10 p.m. that same Friday. Only the distribution of evening meals was maintained, according to a trade union representative who spoke to the Belga agency, according to La Dernière Heure.
The incident resulted in a work stoppage at the prison. The health status of the two victims has not been disclosed.
