According to Nieuwsblad, the Antwerp court sentenced dentist Carl Spaas (72) to seven years in prison for sexually abusing dozens of female patients over a period of 25 years. The court described the facts as "reprehensible".
Spaas systematically abused his position of power as a dentist to gratify his so-called 'throat fetish' on women who trusted him completely. One of them is Chantal (52), who reflects on how trust in her doctor proved fatal to her.
"Often there is a cliché that in cases of rape women are always dragged into the woods. But that is simply not the case", says Chantal. According to the reporting, Spaas knew he had a problem, but never sought help.
