A 30-year-old individual named Kenny (name changed) was charged with illegal possession of a blade weapon. The incident dates back to 28 January 2024 on a motorway at Blaton. The defendant had initially stated he was out of petrol.
The court president, however, presented a different version: two vehicles were parked on the hard shoulder, and a strong smell of marijuana was coming from his car. The other vehicle fled as soon as the police arrived.
The public prosecutor specified that the flick knife was discovered in the man's shoulder bag. The man had provided an explanation during his arrest: he was returning from an evening out and considered that disreputable individuals frequented the nightclub. He claimed therefore to be carrying the weapon for his own protection, which he said gave him peace of mind.
The prosecution emphasised that this blade was not merely a decorative accessory and could have been used as a weapon. The prosecutor did not, however, object to a community sentence or a suspended sentence.
At the end of the hearing, Kenny recalled his memory and confirmed his initial statements: "Yes, that's right, I did give that as an explanation. It was to defend myself." He requested a suspended sentence.
