A 33-year-old man from the English county of Derbyshire, who has been sought internationally for years for drug offences, was arrested on Thursday in a rental property in Brecht.

Police arrested a 33-year-old British man from Swadlincote (Derbyshire) on Thursday in a rental property in Brecht. The man is suspected of producing and trafficking large quantities of hard drugs, an offence that falls under the most serious category of crimes in the United Kingdom.
During a search of the property, officers found narcotics and also a firearm. The suspect is currently being held in preventive custody in this country. British authorities will submit an extradition request.
Rachel Blood, employed at the international liaison point of police in Derbyshire, told HBVL that the man had been on the run for some considerable time for multiple serious offences. She emphasised that cross-border cooperation between police services ensures that fugitives are ultimately arrested.
The arrest was brought about thanks to an extensive investigation by the Belgian team specialised in tracking down fugitives. Local police, the British National Crime Agency and Derbyshire police worked together closely in this regard.
This was, incidentally, the hundredth arrest within the framework of Operation Captura, an ongoing collaborative arrangement between various law enforcement agencies. Rob Jones of the NCA called this "an important milestone" that illustrates the continuing success of international efforts.
