A man in his forties has been sentenced to 50 months of custodial imprisonment for beating and raping his elderly partner who had refused to fund his drug consumption.

The Charleroi courts imposed a sentence of four years and two months' imprisonment on a recidivist defendant. Cédric was tried for domestic violence and sexual abuse against his partner, a woman over 70 years old.
The case began on 31 January 2022. On that day, the victim took refuge at a neighbour's home and alerted the police. Some time earlier, she had refused to give her partner 200 euros to allow him to buy drugs. The man in his forties then took revenge by beating her and forcing her into sexual contact on two occasions, in two different rooms of the home.
These acts of violence were not an isolated incident. Already on 18 October 2021, a first violent altercation had occurred for the same reason: the woman in her seventies' refusal to pay for her partner's drugs. The victim's lawyer, Ms Anne Ureel, had described the abuse suffered: blows to the head, hair being pulled, a fall to the ground. The complainant had then feared for her life.
Following this first proceeding, the court had ordered the accused to comply with a set of measures, including a prohibition on all contact with Estelle. He ignored this. From his cell, he harassed the victim by telephone with sixteen calls in the space of one day. Incredibly, the woman had nevertheless agreed to give him shelter upon his release.
During the hearing, the defendant admitted to having pushed his partner during the October 2021 incident. However, he denied the rape, arguing that the sexual contact was "consensual". The public prosecutor had sought five years' imprisonment, on account of the recidivism. The judges ultimately opted for a sentence slightly lower than this.
It should be noted that the man is already incarcerated for another matter: six years' imprisonment for comparable violence against other people in 2024.
