High-speed chase on E17: Mouscron resident arrested
A 20-year-old French national living in Mouscron was apprehended on Saturday evening following a police pursuit on the E17 motorway. He was driving without a licence and caused multiple collisions.
High-speed chase on E17: Mouscron resident arrested
On Saturday early evening, traffic police attempted to intercept a Volkswagen Golf that was speeding on the E17 motorway, in the section between Deerlijk and Waregem. The driver refused to comply and accelerated to escape the stop.
The fleeing driver, a 20-year-old French national living in Mouscron, continued at very high speed. After the Nazareth/De Pinte car park, he collided with a car but did not slow down. He then headed towards the Waregem exit, in the direction of France, where a second collision occurred. The Golf ended up on its roof, immobilised on the central reservation.
The passengers attempted to flee by seizing a vehicle bearing German number plates. A witness enabled police to apprehend six French nationals.
Investigations showed that the young man at the wheel had no driving licence. He had previously been sanctioned for this reason. He is to appear before the examining magistrate in Courtrai. The charges brought against him are armed rebellion, obstruction of traffic, and driving without a licence.
