On Wednesday morning, gunshots rang out on rue de Dour in Boussu, within the municipality of Mons. An individual aimed at and struck another man with a firearm, firing several times. The victim was evacuated urgently to a hospital centre.
According to La Libre (lalibre.be), the Mons-Tournai public prosecutor's office indicated early in the afternoon that the health condition of the injured person was not a cause for major concern. His life is not in danger.
Law enforcement was mobilised at the scene. Forensic police technicians collected evidence and examined the site. The suspected suspect was quickly taken into custody.
The competent public prosecutor's office was seized of the matter and ordered the opening of a judicial investigation. An investigating magistrate will now oversee the continuation of the investigation to shed light on the motivations and exact circumstances of this armed assault.
Neither the identity of the alleged shooter nor that of the victim has been made public. Any possible links between the two parties remain to be determined by the investigation.
