Nieuwsblad.be reports that a 31-year-old Russian detainee escaped from AZ Sint-Jan in Brugge. The man seized a sharp object during a clothing change for a medical procedure and managed to escape his guards.
During the hospital visit, the prisoner had earlier threatened the guards. This is not his first escape attempt: an earlier escape attempt nearly proved fatal for him, according to nieuwsblad.be.
Police issued a manhunt notice and combed the surrounding woods. A search dog and a helicopter were deployed in the operation. The man was considered armed and dangerous.
